Describe texture as well as colour
The appearance of a metal product depends on more than whether it is black, white or grey. Sheen and texture change how a colour is perceived. Where possible, use a physical sample or an agreed colour reference. A phone image alone should not be treated as final approval because lighting and screen settings vary.
Explain the operating environment
An indoor table leg and an outdoor component face different conditions. Moisture, sunlight, cleaning routines and frequent handling all belong in the brief. Material and coating choices need to be assessed together for the particular use. No finish should automatically be assumed suitable for every material or environment.
Review samples alongside adjacent materials
If the component will sit beside timber, glass or a coloured wall, compare the sample with those materials. Store lighting can produce a different impression from workshop lighting. Include visible fixings and edge treatment in the approval. For batch production, keep a clear record of the accepted sample version.
Define what the quotation includes
